The Zassenhaus Group Theory Conference
May 21-22, 1999

This year, the Annual Regional Group Theory Conference is to be held at Binghamton University on Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22. As you may know, this conference represents a continuation of the series of Ohio State-Denison Mathematics Conferences which are held in alternate years in Granville, Ohio, with the group-theorists meeting in the intervening years at various universities throughout the region.

This is an announcement of the meeting. If you are interested in attending, please inform either of us by letter or by e-mail. The program will begin on Friday morning and conclude on Saturday evening.

In case you need a more formal letter of invitation in order to obtain funds from your institution, please let us know. Also inform us if you know of any others who are interested in this conference, and we gladly will mail them this announcement.

There is an airport here, while Syracuse Airport is approximately a ninety minute drive.

We have secured reduced rates at two motels in the area. You should make your own room arrangments. You will receive the special rate by mentioning the ``Groups 99 Zassenhaus Conference.'' Each will give the rate of $47.95 single or $53.95 double.

  Directions to the Howard Johnson:
  • Coming from the East or West on NY 17: Exit at 70S to head south on 201 (through the traffic circle and over the Susquehanna bridge). Take the exit for 434 West (the second exit after you crossed the bridge). Head west on 434W for about 1/2 mile. The HJ is on your right shortly after the second traffic light.
  • From Campus: turn left at the main exit onto 434W, then continue as above "Head west ..."

  Directions to the Best Western of Johnson City:
  • Coming from the East or West on NY 17, exit at 70N (north on 201). Go a short distance to the traffic light. (From here you can see the motel to your right.) Turn right at this traffic light, then left at the next one.
  • From Campus: Turn left (from the right lane) at the main exit onto 434W. Head immediately up the ramp on your right onto 201 North. Continue on 201 North (over the Susquehanna bridge and through the traffic circle) to the end (about 2 miles). (From here you can see the motel to your right.) Turn right at the first traffic light, then left at the next one.
