Actuarial Assistant
Aveta’s Actuarial Department serves a leading role in a diverse array of corporate functions, including, but not limited to valuation, financial reporting, Medicare Advantage and Part D bid processes, forecasting, and strategic analytics. The Actuarial Assistant position supports Actuarial Management in day-to-day activities across all Actuarial Department functions. Responsibilities and desired qualifications are summarized below.
Responsibilities
- Data gathering, validation, and analysis
- Work with actuarial management and staff to recommend/develop new and improved tools and models
- Build and/or automate efficient and robust analytical models and processes, developing an understanding of their relevance to the needs of the business.
- Participate in actuarial assumption setting processes
- Assist in the annual Medicare Advantage and Part D bid processes
- Resource-permitting, participate in Actuarial Department staff rotation program (reserving, forecasting, revenue analysis, etc.)

Participate in ad-hoc strategic analytics projects throughout the year
- Assist in responding to regulatory and audit requests throughout the year
- Other functions and responsibilities as determined by actuarial management and the needs of the business
- Participate in Aveta Actuarial Student Program
- Periodic travel (up to 15%) to Puerto Rico will be required, occasional travel to other Aveta markets may be necessary as well
Desired Qualifications &Requirements
- Bachelor's and/or Master's degree with 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA preferred
- Coursework in one or more of the following disciplines: Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Statistics, Probability, Risk Management, Finance, Accounting
- Passed at least 1 exam of the Society of Actuaries (SOA)
- A self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with a demonstrated ability to work well independently and in teams
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
- Flexible team player willing to work overtime during crucial times as needed
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Exposure to Microsoft Access, PowerPoint preferred
- Background in one or more computer programming languages preferred
