How do you prepare for the tests?
Students interested in specializing in actuarial science should
prepare for
the first actuarial exam ,
as soon as possible.
Employers are specially interested in students having passed the exam
before their senior year.
Such students should also obtain enough training so that an attempt at
future exams may be made either before graduation or shortly
afterward. Since these exams are not easy, students are recommended to
work hard to prepare for these exams.
The first actuarial exams are multiple choice word problems.
Besides
the difficulty of decode the words, many of
these problems require to do several steps.
You must understand very well the theory to solve
these problems timely.
To take the first actuarial exam ,
students should first take the Calculus sequence and Math 447,
Introduction to Probability and
Statistics I followed by Math 449 (Problem Solving in Actuarial
Sciences) is a course specially
designed for the preparation for the
first actuarial exam.
The second actuarial exam
is on Financial Mathematics. Math 346 covers the syllabus in the
second actuarial exam. The requirement for Math 346 is Calculus II.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a course for the
preparation of part of the
third actuarial exam of the actuarial societies: Math 450.
