You should do these homework problems immediately after the corresponding material is covered in class. In fact, it is a good idea to read the current section and look over the assignment before class.
Do not fall behind. You need to practice techniques and become familiar with ideas when they are first introduced, since they will be used many times in the rest of the course. If you have trouble understanding something then you should try doing more than the assigned problems on the subject.
Some homework problems are labeled as "(x)n" for problem #n in exercise group (x). For example, problem (3)1 is on page 10. Some are labeled as "Sc:n" for problem #n in the Supplementary Exercises for Chapter c. For example, problem S1:3 is on page 46.
