Binghamton Formal Languages Seminar

September 5, 1:15 - 2:40 (Tuesday, not the usual Thursday!)
Speaker: Rani Siromoney (Madras Christian College, Madras, India)
Title: Circular Generative Systems

Mrs Siromoney is Professor of Mathematics Emeritus and Professor of Computer Science at Madras Christian College, Madras, India. Professor Siromoney has contributed to studies of formal languages, Lindenmayer systems, and splicing systems for over a quarter of a century. Some may recall that she spoke here previously (1994).

Her talk will include the study of splicing schemes acting on circular strings. This topic has been of interest to those of us who are concerned with formal representations of the actions of enzymes on circular DNA molecules.

Her topic relates to research carried out here by Dennis Pixton, Elizabeth Goode (Laun), Peggy Sullivan, and Tom Head. She feared that the topic would be too specialized for a talk in our Mathematics Colloquium. All are welcome to attend, but are warned that you may find it too specialized.
