Abstract:
New concepts in the theory of variable length codes will be defined that provide a hierarchy of codes for which the classically studied comma-free codes constitute one of the levels. A sequence of annealings of short single stranded DNA molecules (representing words of one of the new codes) onto a long single stranded DNA molecule (that represents a message) will be idealized as providing a parallel segmentation of the message into code words.
