There will be a Review Session for the Final on Sunday, Dec 11, 5-7pm, LH 001.

Here are some sample problems with solutions from the past quizzes related to the material in Chapters 3 and 4.

Here is a sample test from the last year. There are no solutions for this test, but the problems can be discussed at the revirew session. Sample problems with solutions are posted above. Look at the problems from Chapters 3 and 4 only.

The final exam will be in UU OUHALL on Wednesday Dec 14th 11:00am to 13:00pm. The final exam will be cumulative with emphasis on Chapter 4 in the book.

If you have time conflicts with the exam that is unavoidable,
you must let me know about this by Wednesday, Dec 7

There will be a Review Session for Test 3 on Thursday, November 3, 5:00-7:00 in room LH 01.

Here are some problems with solutions from the past tests related to the material in Chapter 3. Also, please have a look at these problems with solutions.

If you need to take the makeup Test 3, you need to email me you availability on Thursday, Nov 3, by Tuesday, Nov 1. You must obtain the permission from me to take the makeup.

Test 3 is coming up this Friday, Nov 4 during our regular class.

Here is the sample test 2 and its key from one of the previous semesters. Note that problems 10 and 11 are from chapter 3 and should not be considered now.

The answer keys to the quizzes can be found in Blackboard under the section "Course Documents".

There will be a review session on Sunday, Sep 18, LH 01, 5-7pm. It is in your interest to visit this meeting.

Here is the sample test 1 and its key from one of the previous semesters. Note that it involves problems from both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Pay attention only to the problems from Chapter 1.

Test 1 is coming up! It will be held on Monday, September 19 in the usual room at the usual time, and will cover Chapter 1 . IF you have preapproval for the make-up test, email dsavchuk@math with your availability on Monday.

Homework: Homework is posted below, based on the material covered each week. You will not turn it in, but it will be the basis for quizzes and tests.

Class Policies: Attendance is mandatory, and will be checked with pop quizzes. Bring your ID to every lecture and test. Turn off cell phones during class. Basic non-graphing calculators are allowed. All exercises at the end of each chapter are assigned as homework. Homework will not be collected, but will be the basis for tests and quizzes. Cheating will earn you an automatic F. For other policies, see the syllabus.

Course Objectives

Mathematics in Action emphasizes the real-world significance of mathematics and applications of several areas of mathematics. The topics covered include:

The goal of this course is to provide students with an experience in quantitative reasoning and data analysis through mathematical modeling of some real life problems including a hands-on approach. Further emphasis will be on illustrating the importance, relevance, and currency of mathematics in the modern world.
