The department computers run Linux, in
particular Fedora
Linux. We're currently in the process of upgrading from FC3 to
FC5.
Linux supports many types of desktop environments. The default here
is KDE, a relatively windows-like environment
which can be a bit of a system-hog on slower computers. An
alternative is fluxbox, a somewhat more
minimal system, elegant in its efficient simplicity.
