What:
This is a competition for undergraduates at Binghamton University to show off their integration skills, win some prizes, and have some fun!
Dates:
Prizes:
Qualifier:
This competition is open to undergraduates enrolled at Binghamton University.
This part of the competition will be a written exam. No calculators or other devices may be used. Only your answers will be graded, so there is no partial credit. Each integral is worth 1 point. In order to receive credit you must simplify your answers as much as possible and you must box your answers. Final answers may not be expressed in terms of other integrals. Correct answers must include arbitrary constants, absolute values, etc., if appropriate.
The top 12 scores from the qualifier will proceed to the finals. In the event of ties, rankings will either be determined randomly or there will be a short tie breaker before the finals begin.
Finals (Spectators Welcome!):
The top 12 scores on the qualifier exam will compete in a 4 round seeded tournament (see picture below). Competitors will face off in pairs solving integrals at the blackboard.
|
Each pair will have a maximum of 3 minutes to solve each integral. If a correct solution is not produced within 3 minutes, the pair start working on a new integral. When a competitor circles/boxes a solution, the clock is stopped, and the solution is considered. If it is correct (determined by a judge), the competitor receives one point. If the solution is incorrect, the clock is started again, and either competitor may present a solution if time remains. A competitor may not present more than 3 solutions for a single integral.
