CALCULUS: AN ACTIVE APPROACH WITH PROJECTS
John Maceli and Stan Seltzer, Ithaca College

    This workshop will address issues relating to the use of group projects and in- class activities in calculus, including an overview , examples of projects and activities, hands-on experience working in a group on projects and activities, and the impact on the curriculum.

PANEL: THE ACADEMIC JOB SEARCH IN MATHEMATICS

    We will discuss all aspects of the job market, from how to write resumes and cover letters, to what goes on at the AMS-MAA Employment Center, to how it feels to actually have an academic position. We will also consider jobs outside academia, and we will finish with a chair's view of the hiring process.

SEAWAY-NExT: OPEN DISCUSSION OF TEACHING IDEAS/METHODS

    Each person attending is asked to bring one or two teaching ideas to get the discussion going. Discussion might involve the evolution of a teaching idea/method, or what works, maybe why, what did not work and maybe why. These teaching ideas may include technology used in the classroom or in course management.
    The purpose of the session is to share some ideas in an informal setting.
