PFF visit to Oneonta. Friday October 29, 1999.
By Constant Goutziers
A group of seven PFF fellows arrived in Oneonta around 3:00p.m., accompanied
by Dr. Luise-Charlotte Kappe. The first hour was spent mingling with Oneonta
faculty, in the department's commons room. While enjoying refreshments,
we exchanged information about faculty life at a four year College. At
4:00p.m. William Hooper gave a presentation titled "Census and Sampling:
What Statistics Tells Us About It". The talk focused on the advantages
of using sampling techniques to obtain census data. The audience included
faculty and students from a variety of departments, and even a delegation
from the Oneonta Mayor's office. After a lively question and answer period,
the PFF group and four of the Oneonta mathematics faculty retreated to
one of the local restaurants, where they continued their discussions in
an informal atmosphere.
