Introduction and some notes

I've been studying matroids for a number of years now, and there's still a vast wealth of topics yet unexplored in this somewhat little known area of mathematics. In short, the topic that I'm currently studying is "Representability of the Bias Matroids of Signed Graphs". Instead of trying to explain what all of that means at once, I've tried to come up with a decent explanation of each item, step by step, so that you can get some semblance of familiarity with the topic within the space of a typical mathematics keynote address.

I've also tried recommending a text or two on matroids, including the one that I've found to be a godsend in studying the topic -- see the References section.
